7 Health Benefits and 6 Risks of Eating Bananas
Risk 4: Weight gain
Bananas are a satisfying and diet-friendly food for you, but eating too many of them can lead to weight gain. If you eat two bananas a day, the average consumption of them is over 200 kilocalories.
In other words, this is a large number of calories that should not be ignored when eating the fruit as a snack. It would be a good idea to have a dietary lifestyle that is conscious of overall calorie intake, for example, by cutting back on other snacks when eating bananas.
Risk 5: Hyperkalemia
Bananas are rich in potassium, and eating too much of them can lead to hyperkalemia, an abnormally high potassium in the blood. Symptoms of hyperkalemia have been reported to include muscle weakness, temporary paralysis and irregular heartbeat.
However, according to some calculations, hyperkalemia only develops when more than 40 bananas are eaten in a short period of time. Therefore, there is no need to be overly concerned about this risk if you consume a moderate amount of bananas.
